Newsvine's front page is like the National Enquirer, full of rumor, gossip, disinformation and sensationalistic stories (Yellow Journalism). Many posters use lies, inflammatory language, disinformation, and disrespect for 51% of the population and more.
In particular, the gun debate is a circus. Most posters exhibit an obsession with guns, almost like a "love affair" with their guns, especially the automatic weapons. They love their guns more than any human being or anything else. Their knowledge of the Bill of Rights is suspect. They love to play the "I'll tear your opinion or expression of concern apart and make it seem like I am the logical one." Hardly a good approach for a two-way discussion.
These same people support the illegal Iraq war. Seems bloodthirsty to me.
I would not trust a neocon with anything because they have destroyed everything they have touched: their greed and gambling obessions have destroyed America's economy and the global economy; they have destroyed the environment with their oil energy monopolies; they have destroyed America's housing economy with their bogus mortgages; they have destroyed our health care system with their for-profit "health care" corporations; they have destroyed our jobs and wages by shipping our jobs overseas and destroying unions including those of public servants; they failed to take care of our veterans; they steal elections and have taken away our right to vote and for women -- the right to make their own health care decisions; they have made rape legal; they have created the largest prison population in the world; they have stacked the U.S. Supreme court; and they continue to seek opportunities to go to war.
And the Dems just stand there and let them have everything they want.
I am mostly on Twitter where I can follow hundreds of reputable news sites. Plus, there are so many reputable news sites like the New York Times, that moderate user comments to eliminate foul language and personal attacks.
There was an 5.5 earthquake near Mexico city, today. But, you won't know it by looking at Newsvine's front page.
Sad to say, but Newsvine's new format is harder to read, harder to use, and offers less opportunity for dialogue.
The America I knew is dead. Democracy is dead.
It will be up to young people to rebuild our Democracy, if they ever figure out what a Democracy is.
